Want to hire a birth doula but have no idea what one does? You're not alone! Let me explain it to you, so you can feel good about your decision. A birth doula is; a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to women during childbirth. My goal is to help women have a safe, satisfying, and empowering birth experience. I do not perform medical tasks or make decisions. My role is to walk alongside my clients and support them through the process. Emotional support looks like protecting your peace and mentally preparing you for childbirth during our prenatal sessions. Physical support looks like counterpressure, position changes, tens unit, and massaging. I also am there for 1-2 hours post birth to make sure that afterbirth goes well and the family is in a good spot before leaving them. And educational support looks like educating my clients on childbirth during our prenatal sessions, so it doesn't feel so unfamiliar when the birth day comes. Another part of my job is to support clients through the early labor portion, that can look like physical support, or virtual support. I can help guide you and suggest positions that are helpful, suggestions on what to do in early labor, and to suggest when to call your provider or head to your birth space! I think this is worth highlighting because I have heard this is a very helpful part of my job, especially to my first time mamas! If this all sounds like something you would like to bring into your birth, I would love to meet you and set up a free consultation with you! I would love to be a part of your birth; it is always such an honor!
